OHSAS 18001: Occupational health and safety management systems. Requirements

OHSAS 18001 defines safety management requirements for organizations. It  includes guidance on identifying health and safety hazards, and developing a program to manage hazard/risk reduction programs.

All Organizations have some form of a health and safety system. The level and complexity of the H&S system will be dependent on the organization products, processes, materials, industry, practices, etc.  The level of regulation will vary by industry. Additionally there are a variety of local, state, and national laws and regulations.

OHSAS 18001 is an internationally recognized occupational health and safety management system standard. It is intended to help organizations to control occupational health and safety risks. It was developed in response to widespread demand for a recognized standard against which to be certified and assessed.

OHSAS 18001 is applicable to any organization that wishes to establish an occupational health and safety management system to eliminate or minimize risk to employees and other interested parties who may be exposed to OH&S risks associated with its activities and wants to implement, maintain and continually improve its OH&S management system.
